Child Support Calculator : How Can You Save On Child Support? by S. Millson

Child Support is a very sensitive subject. When it comes to supporting your child, you want to give the most help possible while trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle for yourself. Every parent and citizen has the right to earn income and we are going to show you how to can keep as much of your income as possible while still helping your child. In this article, we are going to focus on how you save money on child support.

It’s estimated that 75% of all child support in the USA is collected through what is called income withholding. Income withholding is when child support agencies send notices to the paying parent’s place of employment. The other 25% of child support is paid through willing payments, workers comp checks, social security, disability checks, or pension checks.

First off, you should be aware that the federal consumer credit protection act limits the total amount of money that can be withheld from your paycheck at one time. Every person has the right to create income and earn a living, no matter what his or her financial situation is. The act limits the withheld amount to 50-65% of the payer’s disposable income. Disposable income is calculated as gross income minus taxes.

There are a few steps that you can take right away to lower the amount of child support you are required to pay:

1.Government deductions and legal loopholes to cut your child support payment by half or more.

2.Taking immediate action to prepare yourself to pay the lowest support payment possible.

3.Looking at exactly what courts look at when determining the amount of child support you owe.

4.Arranging mediation outside of court in order to pay a lower amount based on a mutual agreement. Remember, your best chance at lowering the amount of child support you’ll have to pay is by trying to reach an agreement outside of court with the child’s mother or father.

The more cooperative you are willing to be usually means the more understanding and lower payment you’ll have to end up paying. The people who courts punish the most are what child support collectors and parents call “deadbeat parents” who take no financial, mental, physical, or emotional interest in their child. Judges love to punish these parents as much as possible to make examples of them for future parents who are considering on trying to “skip out” or “forget” about paying their child support payments.

In closing, you should always look at your states child support laws and requirements before making any decision on what you are going to do in regards to your child’s future support payment. By being as cooperative as possible you can save a lot of stress, headache, and money.

Always consult with an attorney before signing any documents or making any permanent decision in regards to the distribution of your hard earned income. Good luck and remember, your child’s life is dependent on your support and actions!

Separated parents who experience a change in their financial and other circumstances are being encouraged to contact the Child Support Agency (CSA) to make sure their child support assessment accurately reflects their situation.

CSA South Australian manager Jim McMahon said the CSA recognised the current economic climate could put some pressure on parents.

“The CSA wants to work hard to support parents and ensure that assessments are accurate for the benefit of the children and the parents involved,” Mr McMahon said.

“It’s important that parents let the CSA know about a change in their circumstances as soon as possible, as changes to child support payments may not be able to be backdated and this can put both parents in financial distress.”

Parents can call 131 272 to speak to a customer service officer, or visit the CSA office at 5 Percy Street, Mount Gambier.

After putting on a court-dodging act fit for a Beverly Hills Cop script, Murphy was ordered to pay up after the 15-month court battle came to an end.

Murphy denied being the father to little Angel Iris and demanded a DNA test.

Test results determined that he was in fact the baby daddy and Mel B scored big.

In the child support agreement, Murphy has agreed to a support package totaling more than $10 million dollars.

by Ed Opperman

Child support issues have risen considerably in the United States almost bottoming out several parents (especially women) and children to poverty. According to statistics more than $41 billion are owed to thirty million children in the US in child support fees according to ACES (Association for the Enforcement of Child Support. What should be done to protect yourself from bankruptcy and other hardships as a single parent? Why should your children go without the things they need just because one parent refuses to live up too their financial responsibilities to that child.

With the rising cases of divorce, unhappy marriages, and infidelity, it is very important to file for child support as soon as you and your husband/spouse separate. However if you are unmarried, you should file for child support as soon as your child is born.

You may also have to establish paternity if the father did not voluntarily place his name on the child’s birth certificate or otherwise admit to paternity. This can be voluntary or if necessary compelled by the court through an order by a judge.

All parents, both biological and adoptive as the case may be are required to support their children (adopted and otherwise) until they reach the age of majority which is usually 18 years old; even longer if they have certain disabilities. If the child has been adopted or is in active duty for the military then the parents’ obligations to pay child support end.

Mothers and Fathers have every right to get child support only if they have custody of the child. Step-parents on the other hand are not obligated to support their spouse’s child which is the fruit of a previous marriage or relationship. However a father who never married the mom of his child is still obligated to pay child support but of course there can be disputes as to whether the child is really his.

In order to collect child support, you have to get a court order based on a divorce, marriage dissolution, etc. This order is a binding order by the judge and without this either parent has no obligation to pay child support.

It can be impossible to collect child support if until you can locate the parents current employment. Once you have located the dead beat parents current employer you can get a subpoena duces tucem to obtain his payroll records. Every state has a formula based on the parents earning to determine the amount of child support they must pay.

The future payments can then be deducted automatically from the dead beats parent’s pay check.

If you hire an investigator be sure that they are qualified to conduct this type of information and return the correct information you need to locate their place of employment so you can collect the money owed to you. You can start by doing a Google search to see what companies offer current employment locates and they do a search of all the various investigation services and see if they are recognized as experts. Also check to see if they have any unhappy customers and if their pricing is competitive.

As long as they are qualified, licensed and seem to have a clean history of complaints there should be no reason not to proceed since the average cost of this type of investigation is less that the average dinner at a family restaurant.

SEPARATED parents who have failed to pay their child support could be stopped from leaving the country this Christmas unless they pay their outstanding debts.

Human Services Minister Joe Ludwig warned yesterday that the Child Support Agency had the power to issue Departure Prohibition Orders preventing parents from overseas travel if they failed to make their child support payments.

The program has been strengthened this year, with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship having access to the CSA database, giving its officials the ability to bar people subject to a DPO from leaving the country.

Last year, the agency issued 924 DPOs, resulting in payment of more than $5.6million in outstanding support.

“Since July, 297 parents were issued with a DPO and the CSA has already collected about $2.4million for the benefit of children,” Senator Ludwig said.

“Separated parents need to know they can’t leave their child support debt behind when they leave the country.

“If you can afford to travel overseas for a holiday, you can afford to financially support your children.”

DPOs are not lifted until the subject parent either pays the debts or makes satisfactory arrangements to pay them off.

THOUSANDS of deadbeat mums are failing their kids by running up child support debts.

About 25,000 non-custodial mums are behind in child maintenance payments to dads who are doing the right thing.

There were many more deadbeat dads, but the Lone Fathers Association said yesterday authorities should take a harder look at mums who failed to pay child support.

“They should hound them like they do the dads,” the association’s Barry Williams said.

He said many non-custodial mums hid incomes, like deadbeat dads, by earning cash and understating business profits.

Child Support Agency figures, provided exclusively to the Herald Sun, show there are 90,562 mums across Australia with child support obligations.

Almost 10,000 are more than $340 behind in their payments, and 14,700 have smaller debts.

There are 648,550 non-custodial fathers in Australia.

About 229,000, or 35 per cent, are behind in their payments.

Human Services Minister Joe Ludwig said all parents should do the right thing and support their children.

“It’s unacceptable for any parent to have a child support debt – it is both parents’ responsibility to meet the needs of their children,” he said.

“While most parents do the right thing, it’s clear there are many parents who are failing to meet their child support responsibilities and give their children the support they deserve.”

The Council for Single Mothers and their Children said men were more likely to avoid paying child support.

“It’s an obligation on any non-custodial parent, full stop,” convenor Elspeth McInnes said.

“But the fact is, there are more men who are non-custodial parents. The other big difference of course is women are much less likely to be in the paid workforce and be on good earnings.

“There aren’t a lot of high-rolling women out there who aren’t paying.”

But the Lone Fathers Association said non-custodial mothers were getting an easy ride from the Child Support Agency.

“They seem to have a culture where if you’re female, it doesn’t seem to matter,” Mr Williams said. “With dads, they hound them and hound them and hound them.

“We just want balanced treatment for everyone.”

He said the worst offenders of both sexes were business people, who were able to launder their money and hide it.

“There is a lot of women doing that, I can tell you,” he said.
